Book Talk Tuesday

So, this is my first time linking up with Deanna Jump and her Book Talk Tuesday linky party. The book I want to share is great for Back to School. The title of the book is Who is Melvin Bubble? by Nick Bruel.

This book is written from the perspective of all of the people in Melvin's life. Each character in the story gets to share a little bit about Melvin according to them. Great for teaching point of view.

You get to hear from the Toothfairy:

Melvin's teddy bear:

and pretty much anyone/anything you can think of (including Santa):

At the end of the story, Melvin finally summarizes himself using tidbits from the story.

You can read this story to your class and then have the students create their own narrative story using a similar title (Who is Jessica? Who is Eric?).

1. First the students can brainstorm a list of all of the people, toys, animals, objects that they would like to include in their story.
2. For each person, toy, animal, and/or object that they included they can write an entry and include a picture.
3. Finally you can use the published (final copy) books at Open House, Back To School Night, or as a gift to share with parents.

Does anyone have any other ideas to share about using this book in the classroom?
